Being Polish is more than just geographical locations of ancestral origins, those of Polish heritage, cherish their roots no matter where they live - Poland is their home. Whether living in Poland or abroad Poles are proud of their origins, they cherish and cultivate culture and traditions of the 1000 year old nation.
Being Polish means loving, respecting and protecting the three things Poles have traditionally cherished: God, homeland and family. It means the knightly ethos of helping those in need as well as overflowing hospitality extended to all.
Being Polish means love for literature and arts, listening to Chopin's polonaises and mazurkas and rejoicing being immersed in a unique Latin/Slavic culture and civilization. It means idealism and romanticism in the Mickiewiczian (rather than the Harlequin romance) sense of the term. It means cultivating the memory of fallen heroes, and our great ancestors who created this great nation. It encompasses various traditions, customs and a genetic predisposition for a passionate nature with a love for celebration with family and friends.
Do all Poles fit the bill? Of course not, but as in archery, you have to aim above the mark to hit your target.
